After years of pining, I was finally able to snag one off ebay and it arrived today. The finish looks fair, some apparently light rust spots have formed on the asa and bolt and there's one really nasty looking, but small spot inside the end of the barrel. Found out my 7 ounce is empty, so hopefully I can test this weekend. I plan to try to remove the rust with some fine steel wool and oil, I'm wondering how best to approach this project and if I should try to do anything else with it if it test fires ok before I send it off to Palmer's for a Stroker convert after the first of the year. The only other thing I'm really wondering about now is getting the direct feed setup for 7/8 feed, the pictures on Palmer's site show what looks like an adapter, but I'm wondering if that's a standard part of the conversion or if they still install such a piece. Any insights into the care and feeding of this fine American-made machine would be appreciated

I'm pretty sure that Palmer's will be replacing the bolt so don't spend too much time polishing that up!

As for the adapter, I think they would usually just leave the original feed at 1" since elbows can be found relatively easily for that size. I don't know if soldering a 7/8" elbow would work if there's too large a hole made in the barrel for the original larger feedneck, meaning that unless you rebarrel, you're probably stuck with the 1" neck plus an adapter.

Palmer's sells the 7/8" sleeves, I think it would probably be a small extra cost in your Stroker build. You can also buy one later and put it in yourself. It is just a press in sleeve, nothing fancy, but works well.

Here is a Pic of my Piranha LB with the adapter:
