| Hi, I'm looking forward to buy a Piranha SB (have a WTB thread for it) and already found plenty of parts for both upgrading and maintaining it. Thing is, I never had one of those so would like to make some questions so I can get ready for it: - Can I install a RVA on this gun, if it has a rear CA adaptor? - Does it work well on compressed air or is CO2 really necessary? - Is it worth buying a valve tool for it right now? - I would like to use it a lot so I would like to have a smooth pump stroke. Is it worth sending it to Palmer for his Performance Tune job? - Is it possible to mill the upper tube from the back so I can use a Freak insert to better match the paint to the barrel? - Any other hint you guys can provide for a brass newb? Thanks!! |

| - Can I install a RVA on this gun, if it has a rear CA adaptor? There's a velocity adjuster in the bolt so an RVA isn't needed but to answer your question, I believe you can but not easily (I recall hearing mention of a kit or something but I could be wrong). Ideally though with the adjuster in the bolt, as long as the marker is sprung to shoot 300 or a bit over with the adjuster in the bolt wide open you won't have trouble bringing the marker down to field velocity. - Does it work well on compressed air or is CO2 really necessary? Compressed air is fine. - Is it worth buying a valve tool for it right now? Yes and no. The springs will probably need to be replaced to get it up to a useful velocity and the seals are probably old and dried-out. If you send it to Palmer's the seals and springs will be replaced so you should not need a valve tool if you don't send it to Palmer's you can probably get away with changing just the springs but... - I would like to use it a lot so I would like to have a smooth pump stroke. Is it worth sending it to Palmer for his Performance Tune job? Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes (IMHO). I sent a PGP in and the difference is night and day. Smoother pump stroke, very nice crisp trigger, shoots darts, 300FPS is EASILY obtainable with the RVA just pushing on the spring... I was thinking of getting a VSC Phantom but after playing a bit with my PGP (admittedly with speed feed and fast changer in addition to the performance tune) I don't see the Phantom offering anything I don't have other than an auto trigger. - Is it possible to mill the upper tube from the back so I can use a Freak insert to better match the paint to the barrel? Not really. Most of the length of the insert would be where the bolt is, the insert would block the feed hole and there isn't really any way to secure the back of the insert to stop it sliding out the back of the marker. If you bored deep enough to have the insert in front of the feed hole is the back of the barrel would be way too big tho fit the bolt and you'd still have no way to secure the insert in place. If you are worried about roll outs there are options: Palmer's Wedgits and detents to stop roll-outs and double feeds respectively or, failing that, the nail polish trick works quite well.

| Hawaiian-shirted hooligan | This is only true if it has the adjustable Speed Demon bolt in it. Not all were adjustable. Cooper-T has/had a replacement CA ASA with a velocity adjusting screw in it. Otherwise you have to play with the spring and shims, or see if someone can convert your rear CA ASA to an adjustable one.

| Thanks! Now, regarding the Palmers service, how long does it usually take to get it back and forth? And I'm believeing that the Performace Tune will make it as smooth as one of his markers, right? I would like to have a Rat Rod marker, meaning something that looks rough and old from the outside but that performs really well. Is it possible? Thanks! |

| rat rod is totally possible. send it to Palmer's and get the perfomance tune. they'll install an RVA with the tune. shimming the spring is sorta a pain because you have to undo the airline each time to do it and that can result to leaks. |
