non cartrige valve pgp

ok so i picked up a fixer upper pgp. i put a new seal kit on it. when rebuilding everything i noticed it didn't have a valve spring. did some not have them? i've seen pics of valves torn down without springs and some with springs. i went ahead and put everything back together less valve spring since i don't have one. i was curious so i just threw a twelve gram in it and dry fired it. seems to work ok. hope i didn't jack it up. anyhow is that spring necessary?

thanks

Im pretty sure that you really should have a valve spring or your efficiency will be non existant.

yeah i noticed one on there. i just was looking through some stuff i had and found a maddman spring kit i had. says it's for 97 thru current autocockers and other pump markers. the medium sized springs in the kit seem to fit on the pgp ok what length is the spring supposed to be i used the weakest spring the green one is that ok or should i go with a heavier spring?

thanks for all the help

well i swapped out the trigger frame for a palmers one I had along with a velocity adjuster and a site pin stolen from a ptxtreme I had for sale. Shot some paint outta it. Brought velocity to about 275 not bad.
