Basically to make mokume gane you start with strips of different non ferrous metals for the most part.. you then put them in a clamp type of thing and either fuse them in a kiln (best way) or in a forge/furnace.. It works out to be a big solder/braze joint basically.. and you have effectivly laminated metals..

on a side note, if you take a stack of quarters, stick them on top of each other and slap on a c clamp.. you can make mokume gane

but anyway once you have a billet you hammer/press it down into a workable sheet sort of thing, and alter it with cutting tools to expose more of the layers, then hammer the whole thing flat once again to bring the layer's up to the surface..

if that didn't make any sense just google it.. but to give you an idea.. just for convinence lets say a pgp has 3 .75in diameter x 7in tubes.. each one would have to be solid then bored out unless you could some how roll it into a tube shape or extrude it.. so on top of it having to be a solid 7in rod you would have to modify the layers to get the desired pattern, so you'll probably start out with about a 1.25 in rod..

so yeah, lots of waste but could be worth it

Just pour it into a bucket or a shallow pan and stick your brass parts in there.

Leave it in there over night. The next day take it out using some gloves and rub it with some steal wool #3 I think.

To finish it off I would go over it with some 400 grit wet/dry sand paper then 600 grit wet/dry make sure to sand under running water.

To polish just use some Brasso and a rag.
anyone kno an alternative to the Circa 1850 Soft Strip Environmental Remover?
i found out its not allowed in the US.
