pgp pierce pin

i'm having some problems with the pierce pin in my pgp
using crosman 12ies (they're available) i can't get it to puncture certain cartridges under about 250FPS

is there any way to adjust it so it will work?
every time I change the 12g, i have to turn the velocity way up, then re-chrono

already read it... didn't help at all
even with some 12's, i'll keep trying to get it to pierce by pumping it a bunch of times, but it's just not hitting hard enough

do i need a new pierce pin, or what?
