Nice job!
Some things I like to do is use a section of bicycle inner tube on the grips instead of tape and run a piece of cord off the mag tube plug to the grip frame.

actually im using a tennis over grips...they are quite nice, and a nice variety of thicknesses...

medium grit to remove the paint, fine to smoothe the brass surface, light coat of brasso...

grip frame: black krylon spray paint
grip pannels: blue " " "
