3357 scope question

I originally put this in the member only forum, but I though it would do more good here in the sidearms forum.

For ****s and giggles I was looking at picking one of these up. I also want to mount some ridiculous scope on it.

Kind of like this:

I really didnt get the answer I was looking for, so I am going to try again. The rib that runs down the barrel, its a 5/8in-

How could I cleanly mount a red dot on the 3357, or can I?
I have never owned one, nor have one yet, but if this can be done I may be picking one up!!

IMHO you don't want to own one. they suck!

there are others who will disagree and that's fine with me.:D

FYI though, that's NOT a 5/8" rail. if anything it would be 3/8" but i'm positive it's not 5/8". i'd check for you but all my 3357s are sold.:clapping:

I know about the performance of these things but wouldnt it just look so COOL!
and I was told that the rail was 5/8-now I really wondering, what size is it?

Look at the way this guy mounted a rail to the bottom of his 98c. Iím doing the same thing, you can find this aluminum trim at Lowes or Home Depot, its aluminum trim for plywood. Look in the steal threaded rod section it should be right next to it.

i could very well be wrong about the size, but i don't think i am.

someone who has one on hand will set us straight.

Itís easy; find the right size channel, cut to length and JB weld a picatinny rail to it. Than just drill all the way through the new mount and the top rail of your marker and slap some bolts through it. 15 minutes tops.

I had one on hand to measure, there is a 5/8 rib with cut in sides (like a sight rail), with something like a 1/4 rib on the top of it with squared sides.

Tried mounting a 5/8 BSA 42mil on it. You need to mill off the little 1/4" rib on top, then you can mount to the 5/8 rail. The threaded rods that you use to tighten the sight were hung up on the top of the rail since it doesn't have the picatinny slots.

IMO it would be too far forward on the gun for you to want to use it, even all the way back on the barrel.

You could also check out shotgun mounts which are made to clamp to a 'Vent Rib', these should come in sizes to clamp on the top. From my own love affair with the 3357, I'd say you're probably better off finding a mount that replaces the rear sight, because it's a break action load, you wouldn't want anything mounted on the barrel, it would wear out your hinge and barrel lock.
