Leaking SA 17

Hi guys!

One of my team mates just got his hands on a brand new SA-17 pistol.

The main problem is that every time he loads a twelvie, the whole canister leaks end gets empty within seconds.
He tried to replace the 12 Gram seal (#29 on BT diagram), but he only got a few shots without leak.

It seems that the seal don't do it's job properly...

Ideas, anyone?

(sorry for my kinda weird English: it's not my native language)

I have one with the exact same issue. I tried changing out a bunch of parts but nothing fixed it. I ended up getting it swapped for a new pistol.

Try loading up the face-seal with a whole bunch of oil dripped in and load it. If that don't work, no idea.

pull the front chamber plug, it has two grooves: one for the oring and one for the retaining screw to go into.
the oring goes in the groove towards the valve side.
I have seen one missing the oring completely.

@ Rover:
hum, that's what I feared... with the "oil drop" trick, there's a minor leak after piercing, and it's OK... but when changing the canister, the problem gets back...

I guess it's some misconception issue... That's a shame, 'cause everything else works great on this gun!

We'll have to find a way to keep the twelvies' tip greased on the field (there's a big game approaching)...

Such an amount of grease will probably end up in making the whole gun slippery.

@Smiley:
I'll have him checking that!

Likely something nicked on the inside...

I have 2 SA-17s, one of them required the oil-trick once or twice, but other then that it worked great. Someone else I knew sent his back to get it fixed. You might consider doing the same, if BT is anything like tippmann its got great service.

I had the same issue with mine, sent it to KEE for service, they held it hostage for about 2 months claiming not to have the parts, not keeping contact, then returned it with a new harder seal that still leaked and the new recall parts installed (the REAL reason they held onto my gun for so long).

So no, nothing like Tippmann's customer service.

IMO, a better solution would have been keeping the softer seal material and changing to a stiffer spring inside of the front plug.

Wish I could help you with a solution but I wound up switching to a permanent remote line setup on my SA17 and I guess the dummy 12g supplied with the "Rifle Kit" is longer and puts a bit more pressure on the seal because it seals up fine.

Strange. My SA-17 has been leaking also. Mine has a very hard type(newer, post recall)12 gram seal and this is pretty beat up from use now. I get ten shots from it as it constantly leaks. The flaw with this marker always seems to be the seal wearing out too fast.

I have had my T68 for twice the lengh of time and had no trouble with the 12gram face seal, I wonder if it would fit in the SA-17 peirce pin assembly??
It seems to me that the SA-17 seal is not "bouncy" enough, it doesn't return to its original shape. I think you could try a new seal which will probably work for a while, I'm gonna try and turn mine round and use the other side.
If it works though I can't see it working for very long though.

Got it!
a plumbing O'ring did the trick.

It seems the original O'ring is a bit too hard: it does not takes the shape of the twelvie tip... (sorry, my english is kinda poor)
We found a piece of plumbing stuff that snugs just well!

At piercing, there's still a small leaking through the barrel, but it's neutralized after the first shot!
