TipX barrel question
So I was thinking about getting a pair of the stock a-5 barrels to run on my TipX's sometimes (mostly for looks, I've done the research and I don't honestly expect a performance increase of any kind).
However, a fairly skilled airsmith told me over the weekend that this would be a bad idea because there is some difference in how the back part of the barrel is set up for the a-5 vs the Tipx (something to do with the way the ball travels in front of the bolt being slightly different in each gun or some such theory).
Anyway, does anyone have experience with this setup? any issues? tips?
Some tighter bored barrels will catch the front of the bolt, but the .690ish bore of a stock A5 barrel shouldn't be an issue. Plenty of people have run stock A5 barrels on theirs and I've never heard of an issue with them. The problem comes mostly with barrels with a .684 or smaller bore.
My brother runs his TPX with an A5 barrel. No issues.
Some barrels are longer and will cause issues.
If your worried, check the new barrel against the stocker, and if the threads/barrel end at the same place your fine.
recently had a debate about A5 barrels on TPXs...
To make a long story short, my team pistolero experienced it and, despite the slight accuracy improvement, he decided that it's not worth ruining the look'n feel.
he also tried stock BT4 barrel (wich -in my opinion- are more than similar) and found out that the BT improvement was somehow better, but again, nothing that can change your life.
but he never broke anything.
so if you're sing A5 barrel just for the look, it's not a real problem as long you ensure these are stock A5 barrels!
It is slightly different. makes it slightly easier to see where your shooting but you naturally get that as you shoot it.
I think it looks cool.
I am having a phantom barrel threaded to A5 at >8 inches. WIll let you know how that goes!
