| Why I Think Playing Pistol Rocks Well, two summers ago i had 'one of those days' with one of my Semi autos. A friend of a friend 'opened up' a field in Minden, Ontario (which is still yet to become official, pending the town council's decision) it was me, a few of my friends and a few people i kinda knew or knew my friends, all pretty nice people. as soon as the first game occurred though.... ......crap happened; namely the fact that i got a 12oz that wasn't filled correctly, the guy who had been filling tanks dumped it to chill it, but obviously the bulk tank was almost empty because not twenty rounds into the first game, 'Brrraaaaaaaaatttttttttt'. my Mokal Titan had died, thankfully of all the other people on the field, only myself and another guy on my team had played before, so the death fart of my marker didn't lead to the usual cries of "get him!" but rather the other team asking 'Does he have full auto?' given the fact that i was pretty much balls to the wall and only had a 12 inch tree between myself and four players on the other team, i was thankful for the inexperience, which gave me time to draw (duh duh da daaaa!) my PTX. now, this field being large and basically the full run of an old logging camp, we a hauled everything with us, about 3/4 of a kilometer, to the main playing area, on foot. there were only a few spare CO2 cylinders for the 'renters' (who were hosing) and the one ref was good enough to risk a few hits to take my out of commission marker back to the dead zone. So, there i was, pinned down behind a skinny elm and four people gunning for my arse. I had 3 ten round tubes on me and one spare 12g. I played as sensibly as i could; meaning i shot a few rounds to get heads down and ran like hell. I made it to a thick fallen log, just enough to lay down behind, paint was whizzing over my head and slapping into my log. Not at all what the brochure promised. So i endure about 30 seconds of this until someone on my team opens up on them and they redirect their fire and forget i was even there. So i take this opportunity to leave my accomadations and go have a little chat with the management. So i belly crawl through the forest floor for a good twenty or so yards, almost found poison ivy the hard way (not allergic anyways, but no sense taking chances...) and basically move all the way to their right flank, no one had noticed me yet. now, as things go, i would think i was in the ideal place, a nice, clean line of sight, about twenty yards between me and my first target and a ball in the chamber marked 'to whom it may concern...' i line up my target, wait until the exhale, and pull the trigger. *click* Crap. I bellyflop to the forest floor, the undergrowth thankfully hiding me from casual observation and try to fix my latest problem. turns out i hadn't set the adjuster for the lever chager quite tight enough and i had a slow leak. this meant two things for me: one, i was down to one twelvie for the rest of the game, and two: i wouldn't have to worry about the tell-tale hiss of a near empty twelvie being ejected. i carefully adjusted the lever changer and poped in my last 12g. this one went in and didn't hiss gas, so i was cool, for the moment. i cleared the barrel (by removing it and blowing it free of one ball) and replaced and turned my feedplug back to the 'feed' position. Just my luck, my opponents had advanced a good 30 yards, so that was the end of that idea, but it still meant i was behind them and had an advantage. one of them finally took a hit to the hopper, and started to leave, almost shouting a warning to the rest of them, the ref made sure that didn't happen though (thank the gods for good reffing!). i managed to sneak up the ten yards to get into optimal shooting distance and actually got one of them, nailed him on the pack with one ball. he got up, but that got the attention of the remaining two. Just my luck. i snapped off another two shots and ducked behind an even thinner tree than the first one, standing sideways and reminding myself i needed to excercise more, 'cause i had way too much sticking out. i didn't get the chance to get another elimination, my own teammate Cheney'd me. oh well, game two: Assault and Defend. I'm on the assaulting side. Take out my PGP2K with the crossman stock, pick up my four remaining 12ies and as much 10rnd tubed paint as i could, after this game we'd be breaking for lunch, but until then, it's too bad. i'm boned. now, the paint we bought for the day was really nice. but it was 'tourny grade' meaning the PGP2k broke three balls that game out of the first twenty, the barrel got gunked up and i gave up on trying, hung it from a convienient flag station and once again turned to the PTX. Now the PTX is certainly not the best marker out there, definitley a poor pistol compared to others. but it let me get behind the hill the others were defending on and score three eliminations before i took a storm of paint to the chest and face. After that, it was back to the Titan, but this day proved to me just how fun pistol play can be, and convinced me to buy my next pistol, and first new marker ever, a Tac 8. The moral of this story? i don't think there is really one, oh wait, there is... Don't buy a PTX

| Yeah, it's fun. I remember last year, playing at Adrenaline Paintball's Redneck game. My A-5's ratchet was stripped and my Blazer was being an a-hole so I borrowed a buddy's T8. So I went out there with just one mag. Cut thru some trees and waited around. I snuck across the field to the urban field and started raising all the flags for my team. Then I managed to surrender 2 people before shooting the general and his bodyguard and some dude who asked me what team I was on (duh!). At that point, a local team came from the woods and cleaned up anyone who was left. Damn that was fun! I've actually found that playing limited paint/pump has made things more fun because I have to work harder to get the same results. I actually play better because I put myself at a massive disadvantage.

| Heh, I kinda get a kick outta the expressions of some people's faces when they look at me toting just a pistol and ask, "Is that all you have?" and I'm all like, "Yep." They're either scared or they think I'm dumb. Either way, I have the last laugh. I remember the time I was toting my ol' P68 SC, I was the only one playing pump and a dude with an A-5 told me that I scared him.

| Pistol is hella fun. I got a chance to play dual pistols once (Two ACP 2.0s), and man is it a blast. You have to be playing all out just to be effective (No more accuracy by volume!), but the sight of one guy running like hell with nothing but two pistols and a belt of 12-and-10s is pretty intimidating because you know that anybody brave or crazy enough to play like that is going to ruin your (poo). |
