| Ion feednecks stripping. I'm trying to get an unbiased oppinion about this. But do Ion feednecks strip often? Is it a stock defect or do people do something stupid and mess them up? I got a friend who makes it sound like it happens all the time on the Ion stock...but I want to know what you guys think. My second day reffing I tried to help a little kid who stripped out his Ions feedneck...but their wasn't a whole lot I could do. Also if it does strip, how hard/how much is it to fix. |

| MCB Member | Well first the threads are very fine. People tend to pull them off before appying a little heat. People tend to screw on a new feed without cleaning threads. This can cause stripping. Also they tend to cross thread. What was the kid doing to the neck? Second,if you want to fix threads, you need to find out the thread size. Then find a tap. Depending on the damage, you could just rechase the threads and then add some blue locktite. Hope this helps. Later, Blackrain

| Seasoned Member | The threads are on the weak side, and the aluminum used isn't exactly top-notch. If it does strip you'll probably have to epoxy it back in, attempt to fix the threads, thread it for another feedneck style, or just replace that part of the gun.

| well, I didnt watch the kid setup his gun, so I'm not sure how it was stripped...hmmm, rethreading is possible...where you get taps that big? Sounds like you'd have to take it to a machinist and it might be cheaper to get replacement parts, lol. |

| Active Member | to be honest, it's likely that it would be cheaper to just replace that section of the firing can with a stock replacement...or with the Lucky or NDZ chambers would also work... I fear that the cost of a tap that size (feedneck) is going to be stupidly expensive... As an example, I bought a tap to rethread damaged ASA's for in-line regulators (standard ASA thread) and that was $47. I can't imagine what a feedneck tap would cost.....

| This is actually a trend for all SP markers. Shockers will do the same thing. My suggestion is to get a nice clamping feedneck and lock tight the crap out of it. Most problems I see come when a tight hopper is removed by the twist method thus unscrewing the neck from the body. Repeat that a half dozen times and you have stripped threads. Get a good clamping neck and you never have to fight that. Another option is to get a aftermarket body that has the threads for the feedneck in it. That way the worst case scenario is stripping the body forcing you to put the stock body on and reattaching the stock neck. But the inner tube is saved. I think the Ion is one of the best bang for the buck markers to come along in a long time. I have 2 and put more time on them then my eblade or FF shocker. Just some thoughts... |

| Can't you not take out the bolt without taking the feedneck off? thought i heard that somewhere....although...one of the bodys availible has the back part open so its easier to get to the bolt... the deadlywind negative..something. |
