Thinking about building an ion from the ground up

Well Im thinking about building an Ion from the ground up. I do not currently own one and am currious what it would cost to build one with the best parts. Anyone feel like giving me a run down on what I would need and a break down on cost.

Personally I really like the shock teck ION body. I think it's the best out there. Let's get serious here for one sec. It's not the gun,it's the person using it. Probably why I still suck so much lol. Any way,I think the biggest thing you really need to look for is an APE board or a Blackheart board, or even a TADO board. That would be your biggest improvement. Look for a real nice frame too, there are a few out there. Lots of ION parts here too. Hope this helps.
Later,
Blackrain

Building an Ion from Aftermarket Parts - PbNation

I've thought about doing this project, also. You can build a totally unique Ion, but it could cost around $500-600, depending on the parts that you use and the various options.

I also was thinking about building an Ion from scratch. But then I started wondering how cheaply I could build one from all the stock parts people are always selling after upgrading everything. I mean honestly the stock one shoots plenty fast enough, and mainly I planned on getting one due to the light weight for my daughter to use.

The last stock Ion I built from scratch cost me in the $130 range with factory parts. Just takes a bit of scrounging. Ionowners.com is the best place for stock parts.

Reviving a dead thread because I am seriously thinking about building my own Uber-Ion that will be almost totally out of aftermarket parts. I want a marker that is easy to maintain, a high-performer, and aesthetically pleasing.
Here are the parts that I have chosen so far, in no particular order. I believe these are all the parts I need to build a complete marker. Am I forgetting anything? (EDIT: I'm going to use my SP Progressive for the barrel).

The color scheme I am going for is Blue body on Silver with Black trim, all polished.

All these parts shipped, bought new, would be around $650. And, only the grips, seal kit, screw kit, and banjo fitting would be from Smart Parts.

My rationalization for this project is that it would be more fun to build my own electro than to spend the same amount to buy a complete marker off the shelf.

Comments and/or suggestions appreciated.

May I recommend a TechT L7 Bolt? IMHO, it's the best bolt for the Ion. The trigger's they make are nice too.

You may. I am considering the Deadlywind Hollowpoint, but I already have a good Ion bolt in the ACP Delrin.

Why would you spend that kind of money on an Ion? I have an Ion but I would not soak that kind of money into one. I enjoy shooting it but I have about $300 in it. A good barrel, bolt, QEV, and board are the necessary upgrades. I prefer the Scenario Dreams T-board myself. I would rather spend the money on a Tac One and still have a marker that is resaleable.

For fun. To have a one-of-a-kind marker that I assembled by hand myself, from scratch.
