i got some shocker education yesterday

i picked up a shocker 4x4 not terribly long ago here on mcb and was really excited to finally play with it. so yesterday i take out the newest shocker i own and, not having an hpa tank in hydro, had to borrow one from the field. i screw it into the max flo at the chrono station and air just rushes out. it seems air was also going through the gun and it was cycling...sort of. it was chufffing. i scratched my head and was quite dismayed.

i'm the sort that can get upset and be so upset that i can't think straight.

after trying again, it hit me. the tank i borrowed was an hpa tank. d'oh! the shocker is a lp gun. the max flo on the gun is lp. so i learned what happens when you try to use hp instead of lp. i still feel kind of dumb.

It shouldnt matter. If it was venting out of the MaxFlo then you should check that. The maxflo should be able to handle high or low pressure inputs. The pressure should be around 200-250psi for the gun to work correctly.

^ what he said. Input pressure to the maxflow should not matter if it is doing its job correctly. I have even used CO2 on my Shocker Turbo while ramping and it didn't malfunction. It sounds to me like you have a blown seal somewhere.

Your maxflow might have such a short o-ring bearing surface that the tank isnt sealing before actuating the on/off pin. You'll need an on/off tank most likely. That's what the bottomline maxflo's came with in the first place.

You can also try the O-ring trick. Drop a tank oring in the max-flo before screwing in the tank. check out ZDSPB.com. There is a wealth of information over there.

2 things to remember about old shockers.
1. THey love CO2
2. They love Dow lube

They eat tons of both, keep them both on hand and it should be happy

Looking for all Canadians on MCB, building a list by province. PM me to be added to the list.
