price

Can anyone give me a estimate of what a Ion with a full freak kit should cost? Somebody wants $140 for one. Also, is a freak system better or worse than other barrels that use different backs? Thanks.

I'm afraid your not going to get too high of an opinion on Ions here, or anywhere else for that matter.

Ions have a terrible resale value due to the lack of quality and reliability that they offer. The Freak Kit is also one of the worst barrel systems ever devised. The back and the inserts are seperated by a pair of o-rings which cause the insert to shift and change shape during each shot. After you chop once, the paint gets stick in that area and gets worse with each and every shot thereafter. Nearly every insert system on the market is of a better design and lacks those flaws. Which one is actually better is open to endless debate so it all comes down to personal preference. So IMHO, $140 is not a bad price but then again in this case you will truly get what you pay for.

It's not the quality or reliability of the Ion that is the issue, it's more that there are 200 gazillion of them out there for sale.

That price seems about right, depending on the condition of the items and whether the kit includes all the inserts (also in good condition).

You could definitely get the price down, but not by much.

IMHO the quality and the reliability does play a huge factor. But their availability does play a bigger role in the price arena. Most of these guns either spring a leak due to a broken hose connector or the power button will break off the board within a few months of light use. Then the feednecks tend to strip out, especially with a Halo and a clamping feedneck. There are better guns to be had and for a few dollars more.

I like the freak that I have and have had no problems with it in the 2 + years that I have used it. It seems to get a bad rep because it is a smart parts product and that taints peoples veiw of it.

That's partly true but also it is really nothing special. It is the most commonly used barrel kit but is by no means the best.

Well those inserts are fragile as hell. My friend had a Freak kit, and a Frantom barrel. 2 or 3 of the inserts he had never used would fit in there, and he stores them in the hard plastic Freak case. Not to mention I've heard the tolerances are screwed up, or something like the .689 will actually be a .685, etc.

if the freak system has all the pieces its worth $80. the ion isnt worth that much due to the number of them on the market. the ion is a very reliable gun i have one and its only broke once.
