Haha...I just expect the barrel to stick out however many inches from the front of the marker by how much it's advertised as being.

Yeah but the barrel is the same length regardless of what it's threaded into. I count barrel length from the tip to where the back meets the gun. Threaded portion I don't measure.

but the gun doesnt always end where the threads do. so the part of the barrel exposed isnt always the same. thas why barrels are marketed the way they are. not saying it makes sence just saying thats how it is...

I agree, but even by that thinking that would make the barrel shorter not longer. Correct?

I say we get a bunch of barrels together and start whacking the manufacturers on the melon with them from different distances until they can tell the difference in length.

Just to avoid confusion, what I'm saying is screwing a 12" barrel into a Phenom with the shroud on doesn't make that barrel 6" all of the sudden. If that was the case every M4 on the market would be an illegal SBR and the ATF would be really busy.

Measuring barrels is tricky. My 12" DW barrel is longer than 12". It's 12 3/4" from the tip to where the gun meets the barrel. Same with my Freak back and Stiffi tip. They're both considered 12". Figure that out.
