My Sterling & 12 grams

Ive been wanting to do a thread like this for a while (since I read all of the sniper/12g stuff). Not just to see what I/it could do but because I plan to run it strictly on 12grams.

Current set up:
12" or 13" stock ported barrel thats Freak bored, open face bolt, macro, stock ASA & AGD Micro CA.

Extra parts:
1x hard valve spring, Necro spring from my Timmy (insanely light), Spyder springs out the *** to cut up & use, Female Palmer, adjustable bolt, shorter & unported stock barrel. Stainless fittings & aluminum hard line (will go on in the end)

A few weeks ago I ran a hopper through it with some rather crappy egg shapped Zing paint & under boring it. Had the shim in it & got 23 shots in the 310-325 range then one in the mid 200s & one sub 200 before it vented. Cant remember if I used a Crossman or God Force Tactical 12g. Stripped the asa to frame screw holes out when I played last & fixed it today then decided screw it & made the videos.

Tests 1-15

Paint: Valken Redemption
12gram: God Force Tactical
Insert: .675 Brass Damn good under bore but not squeezing the crap out of it.

Chrono Chart:

1st 12g I loaded 30 rounds. No shim. Had one double feed at 158fps. 29 shots between 209 & 282fps. After that I had around 8 decent sounding dry fires.

2nd 12g loaded 40 rounds. Shimmed. 27 shots between 234 & 323fps. #28 @ 195. #29 @ 156 & vented.

Test #3 swapped to the hard red valve spring. Same paint & insert. No shim. Crossman 12g.

Test #4 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 4

From Test 5 on, I said what I changed in the viedo. It is/was easier for me than writing everything down & loosing my notes.

Test #7 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 007

Test #8 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 008

Test #9 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 009

Test #10 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 10

Test #11 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 011

Test #12 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 012

Test #13 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 013

Test #14 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 014

Test #15 YouTube - Sterling 12gram Test 015

To make it easier, this is my Youtube channel. All 15 tests are there. I guess as I do test I will make a new post then link it in this post to keep from searching & looking over info.

I can see getting 35 good shots with some light tuning & a decent chance of getting 40. Might have to throw the Palmer on there to help & keep the pressure in line. Oh well, off to bed.

I think you can get your 35 good shots with tuning.

A friend and I did some test with an old STP without trying to change springs or anything (the gun was set with light springs). Only a reg set to 700 psi and 12g (we also did a test with reg set 500 psi, but we had a bad result).
The barrel was an 0.684 Ultralite moded with spyder threading and the paint was some crap I had laying around - so I know we could have reached high performance than we did.

anyway, we were able to get 34 shots between 260 and 200 fps. The 32 first shot were between 250 and 260 fps, which is enough for what I was looking for (a light stock class Sterling).

I finally opened a Youtube account to put the videos on & links are posted under the videos from my site. If anyone can tell me how to embed youtube videos on here, I will give them a big thank you.

Also posted the shot velocities under each test.

Use the youtube tags under advanced and trim the link to include only the video ID which is after watch?v= or smth like that. Just the video ID and then it works.

Beeing a sterling owner myself, I search high and low for valid and prooven to be true sterling info.
