Will be picking up a Sterling soon...

I have wanted to get a Sterling for years. Never bought one for this or that reason, but now am pulling the trigger on one. I have been looking for an older one and found a '97 for sale. I'm stoked! Any helpful advice or info would be appreciated.

I just got one in a trade and its awesome. I wish I could find out how to adjust the velocity though.

Congrats to both of yall!!

Buck, either using a regulator & adjusting pressure or playing with the springs is how you adjust the velocity.

Excellent tidbit there. Didn't know that.

I have the older version so I gotta play with springs. I hate it...
But other than that it's pretty damn good.

Just got mine in the mail this morning. I need to fit a bottom-line to it and it'll be ready to rock. Sounds pretty quiet when I shoot it. Won't know the velocity until I get out to the field.

Pics when I get a camera.

bit o' thread necro - mostyly on account of me getting new grips for my sterling:

1. to adjust velocity your first option (and often only option) is to fiddle with the hammer spring - either clip it, put additional spacers on it, or change it altogether - once you have it set you should be good. To be on the safe side - aim for 275-280 fps to avoid fps spikes going over 300.

2. If you are lucky to have one there are bolts with flow control (by means od a key going down the barrel).

3. - get a reg, though this requires a change in setup, and most likely an extension of the frame to mount it on - check the sterling picture thread - might give you some ideas.

Also - check your barrel threading - old sterlings use sterling threaded barrels, newer ones have spyder threads - would be a shame to spend $100 on a new barrel that doesn't fit.
