Runs great with a CO2 tank but won't run on 12 grams.

I have an older Sterling STP and had the idea of running 12 grams using an adapter screwed right into the rear ASA. The other day I tried exactly that; aired up the gun with no leaks, cocked the gun, pulled the trigger and what do I get? Almost nothing! The balls come out of the barrel so slow you could literally have someone catch them in their hands without the chance of a break. It must be about 30 fps or less. However when I run the gun with a constant air CO2 tank it works great, plenty of velocity. Any idea why it does not want to run on 12 grams but runs fine on a tank? My other nelson based pumps seem to run fine with either but not the Sterling, odd.

that is weird. I may end up doing the same on one of my sterlings. I do know that Sterlings were designed for CA as they are meant to be high ROF pumps. Is your 12g changer working fine on other guns? Maybe it isn't puncturing well enough to feed the gun enough or maybe you just need to make the 12y tighter. What sort of changer are you using? It may take respringing, but I would look at the changer or perhaps a dud 12g as likely culprits.

Are you using crossmans from walmart? They are known to be under filled.

I would start with springs. I havent done a shot count per 12 gram on my Sterling in a while but she is running out fine (Micro CA into Female Palmer). I wasted more 12grams tuning & adjusting the pressure than I want to claim but Im happy. Still need to do a little more work.

Also, if you look in this section you can find my thread about it with videos & info.

I have ran both Lelands and Crosman 12 grams and got the same result, I decided continuing to mess with it was just not worth it and as it runs fine with a CO2 cylinder just use it as my dedicated open class gun.
