did you change your springs when you hooked up a reg?

I tried to run my sterling yesterday <40*F on CO2 and the pressure from the tank was down to around 500 PSI. I normally run HPA with a high output 800-900 PSI. With the pressure closer to the valves sweetspot I couldn't get it below 320 FPS. So I guess I'm asking did anyone have to change springs when you hooked up a reg or just dial it in further from the sweetspot to get back to usable velocities?
