drop the http:// from URL button

Hey, it's far too easy to make a broken link when the forum "Insert Link" button adds the http:// for you and you end up with doubles. I don't believe it's even necessary for the link to work, so having it there as a default doesn't seem critical.

Another solution would be if the text were highlighted when the box came up so a copy/paste of a link would overwrite the pre-existing http://

Yea, I agree. It gets me everytime.
Lets be honest- no one types the link in, we all copy/paste.

i always paste the url and it automatically makes it clickable, never have needed the insert url.

Not the hotlink button so much as the insert picture linking kills pictures if the person isn't paying enough attention.

I'l vote to keep it, just to be difficult. Its a nice reminder that the forum code requires the http qualifier. Though, it does beg the question, what wouldh appen if I used ftp, ot telnet, or gopher or news?

Like I said, my second suggestion would be to have the box auto-highlight when it opens. There's no reason to have a second step, and having to go back and fix it just because you forgot to highlight things is annoying.

It does auto-highlight as long as you don't click into the box. In IE and FF 2 and 3
