You know, I hadn't thought of that. I've got a 68 special body lying around, I'll take a look and see how doable that would be.

Ha, I'm so backed up with projects and schoolwork that I wouldn't dream of taking anyone's money. You can still buy my SMG though.

It looks doable. It would require a new front, obviously. The machining wouldnt be very intensive, I'd basically be re-creating the SMG 68 front out of new stock.

In any case I'll focus on the 60 to 68 conversion.

Any updates? Or has this project been discarded?

This is the last project I will ever discard. I just don't have much time to tinker right now between school and working to pay for school. It will eventually get done, and I still hope to offer a service. Just, not soon.

Have the trumpets faded on this project?

A little bit, if I'm being honest. I still have most of my SMGs and tools, but I haven't had a weekend to myself in ages. If I make progress, I'll be sure to post it.

I have a SMG-68 converted to the 68 Special that I bought for parts in the early 90s. It's now a working marker. I like the clip Idea but not the backward conversion. It's been slow and the project was mothballed for a few years. I just pulled it out again and I'm almost ready to run some function tests. I had purchased a broken forward receiver from Bacci and built/milled/machined it to mimic the 98's receiver. It now takes a first generation flatline barrel and a cyclone feeder. I expect some issues due to the extra punch of siphon on the cyclone feeder but I should be able to work that out. I do however, expect improved function on the flatline. A fire mode select trigger will be next if all goes well. The new receiver accepts the 98 clip adapter and standard 98 compatible barrels so this could be the first upgradable 68 Special. Still making minor adjustments but I should be test firing in April.

You should start a new thread for this, it sounds very interesting, and please, lots of pictures

I'm surprised no one has made a printed adapter to run current zeta mags or such.
