Tippmannparts.com has receiver halves and all replacement parts you need, a bit pricey though

I haven't bought from them in a while

I think epoxy putty would be fine here. The inside of the reciever half should still have one slot left for the end cap to rest in. I would personally epoxy it up so it's presentable, and swap in a plastic end cap from a slightly newer 98 to help buffer it some more. Worst case scenario is it breaks again and you use the internals on another project.

You could drill and tap small holes above and below the missing piece, lined up with the groove in the rear cap. and thread in a couple grub screws to help retain it.

Never. There was a time when I was really into karting; and there were a few guys that had used it to make engine repairs and even to reshape combustion chambers ( with such a low melting point, I thought that was rather gutsy). I have seen a video where two pieces of aluminum were butt soldered in a "t"; and the extension piece was beat with a hammer. The extension was mutilated; but the joint never came apart.

I never had a reason to use it to be honest; but as neat as the stuff is, I would like to find a reason just to mess with it.
