| still recovering .....  Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: columbus, ohio  | how serious of an issue is this ?
got a MODEL 98 today , and found it has this chunk missing out of the body ...... seems to be holding in there solid ..serious issue or not ?

Eh, you'll be fine. take it apart and check the inside of the body for more cracks, but I dont think your in any trouble.

didnt see anymore cracks when i had it apart to polish the internals ..... this is the first one ive had like this ..... a common problem ?? - plan to use it as a loaner - so need to be sure she is safe

id like to replace that body half - but man , finding a model 98 shell half will be difficult

When you take it apart make sure that there is a bumper between the hammer and rear cap.

there wasnt when i disassembled it to do the polish job...... there is now bet thats what happened - especially with the back piece being metal - the spring that was in there was weak ( replaced with new one) and there was no bumper - so hammer probly came back - slammed into the metal stopper and split the body
