how serious of an issue is this ?

got a MODEL 98 today , and found it has this chunk missing out of the body ...... seems to be holding in there solid ..serious issue or not ?

Eh, you'll be fine. take it apart and check the inside of the body for more cracks, but I dont think your in any trouble.

didnt see anymore cracks when i had it apart to polish the internals ..... this is the first one ive had like this ..... a common problem ??

- plan to use it as a loaner - so need to be sure she is safe

YOu should be just fine. If your real worried, mix up some epoxy and glob it in, and just file and sand it to shape afterwords.

id like to replace that body half - but man , finding a model 98 shell half will be difficult

When you take it apart make sure that there is a bumper between the hammer and rear cap.

there wasnt when i disassembled it to do the polish job...... there is now

bet thats what happened - especially with the back piece being metal - the spring that was in there was weak ( replaced with new one) and there was no bumper - so hammer probly came back - slammed into the metal stopper and split the body
