How short of a barrel.....

have you put on your A5? I'm looking for info on how you did it and what were the results. I know the accuracy will drop but did the FPS change to the point you needed to adjust when you changed back to stock size.

First time I cut down a spare A-5 barrel roughly .25 inches after the porting. Accuracy after roughly 45 feet was nill, 30 feet was semi reasonable, and closer was unaffected. To cut it down i used a pipe cutter, then upon removal of the tip, I filed the end cleanly, used needle files to get the inner bore then used a polishing compound to clean it up even more. Velocity held well at 270, but that was about the best we got out of it.

Tippmann guns need an 8" barrel to be playable on the field, any shorter and you are handicapping yourself.

Thanks guys. I was looking at the possiblity of a "pistol" on a hose. I guess I'll keep it in the to do pile until I need a CQB rig.

I play with some guys who's barrels are just long enoug to use a Dishka, so about 2". The thing is, the velocity has to be turned up all the way for normal FPS.

Dishkas are fantabulous. Plus, if you want it as a backup sidearm, you will probably be using it short-range anyways, right?

If you are having to crank the velocity to max for a short barrel it means you are wasting CO2..... basically pissing it away.

You are having to use a HUGE volume of gas to get the ball up to speed... instead of using a normal amount that expands behind the ball in the barrel getting it up to velocity.

JCS make a 5" barrel that is pretty decent. That shortest one that I have used is a 8" Lapco bigshot. Pretty accurate barrel for the length.

I use a 3" End Game barrel, the Dishka Loudener fits perfectly on it, there is no space behind it at all and it couldn't fit any better. I try using it in bushball, accuracy is terrible, the balls whip left right, up down. In buildings it's fine, but I don't need range.

BUT I think it depends on the paint, in some games I've had great luck and my shots seemed to be a lot better.

And yeah I have noticed that your air is just eaten up, had to refill my 48ci tank in 4 games.

I ran a chopped down the stock barrel to about 4". Horriable accuarcy, but it was fun to shoot at least, because it was VERY LOUD, even shooting pretty low FPS. Got less than 100 shots to a full 4 oz.
