| abandoned SCPer | Refinishing an A5
So me and a friend are selling off a lot of our old gear as part of the process of getting back into the sport. One of the things we have is his old A5. By old I mean he bought it the year the A5 came out. This thing has been sitting in the garage for a while and the finish is peeling off. Whats the best option? should i strip the body and polish it? Is there a good way to refinish it black that is inexpensive and durable? Any info would be appreciated Thanks Chris |

Wire wheel and some good spray paint...Since the resale value is not that great on the old single valve port A5s it might not be wise to put a whole lot into a paint job..

Yep, and you could gold plate it too..Its like putting lipstick on a pig and although the pig looks better its still a pig..the old A5s sell for about 80.00 or you could sit on it for awhile for 100.00.. BNIB they are 189.00 with a 2 year warrenty, so whats a repainted over 7 year old one worth?.....

Tippmann stuff has dropped like a rock(not that it doesnt do that on its own) I sold a gigantic Phenom package($100 in cyclone ups) and with tacamo kit, Techt inserts etc etc for about $500.. and there was way more into it then that and that is more recent stuff.

To take the powdercoating off, I used Aircraft Remover to great effect. It just crinkles up and you wipe it off with a sponge. For my A 5 it looked nice, gray body with black parts attached. I even called Tippmann and they sent me a free replacement name tag "jewel" which made the gun look like it was supposed to look like that. I wish I had a picture but I've since changed her all around.

A5s are IMO, rock solid and dependable. Knowing it isn't worth much, just keep it for backup to whatever it is you eventually buy. Besides, it's not like you can't play with an A5. I play almost entirely on blowback Tippmanns. It hurts many feelings to get beaten by a fat guy with a mech Tippy, which is probably why I like playing with them so much. If I were to re-paint an A5, I'd probably go with OD green or just strip it bare and leave it be. I had a bare M98 that was very cool, but I sold it. |

^ oh it hurts lots more feelings getting beat by a fat guy with a pump and a pocket hopper(thats me) I really dont need a backup since i have my sniper and then my phantom just in case( and if i break a phantom then thats a sign from God that should go home for the day) I'll probably just strip it bare. Even though I'm selling it I dont like selling things to people that look dirty/not in good shape. |
