Freak bored stock barrel

Anyone ever freak bored a stock a5 barrel? Ive heard the bolt can pull the insert out. Is that true? Any help would be great. Also while we are at it im looking for a short front handguard that would go well with the stock barrel. Maybe even a good bit shorter as i may cut the barrel down. My only requirement is that it has a bottom picatinny rail for vertical fore grips and such. So im thinking like 6 inches or less for the handguard

Don't know about the A5 specifically, but I asked Staunchy about doing a stock 98 barrel and he said that he'd also have to modify the bolt, since the end of it goes inside the breech when firing, which pulls the insert out. I'd assume the A5 is the same way.

I have a TPX barrel bored out for freak inserts and yes it pulls the insert out if you use an insert smaller than .687

I'd assume the A5 would do the same thing.

Yeah, virtually all tippy's do that. I believe tippy freak backs hold the inserts in place by design

Ahhh ok so if your gonna do it you have to actually get the freak back. Gotcha. That kinda sucks since boring probably would have been cheaper. Now what about some of the after market bolts from like techt etc. Would they be just as likely to pull?

I had Stanchy freak bore my SL68II barrel. I have never had an insert get pulled out in more than half-dozen uses. The barrel has performed great with everything from my Ty Mcneer .675 brass insert to various aluminum freak inserts.

He bored the barrel slightly deeper (you'll have to ask him since I do not remember) to account for the bolt and bolt oring entering the back of the barrel when it fires.

I feel like if the insert is tight enough wouldnt the bolt not be able to enter it?

I bored 1 tpx barrel and 2 A-5 threaded barrels so far and have had no issues with the insert pulling out in a tipx. I have the same barrels to try on an A-5, but have not done so yet.
