SMG - To Restore Or Not

So I've got this SMG-60, you see? It's nothing spectacular, Sniper model, so internal line, does have a plastic sight but it's cracked and needs to be epoxied, the rear cap has been tapped for a ghetto homemade velocity adjuster, original sling but no tank/buttplate or clip catcher, and the serial number plate is lost to the ages.

In addition to a possible .55 conversion, I'm debating doing some "cosmetic" refurbishing of the marker; i.e. refinishing the barrel, magazine, and receiver which show signs of wear and some minor rusting. (On a side note, anyone know what the original finish on these is? The barrel and receiver look blued, which should be easy to strip and cold blue with a kit, but I'm not sure if the aluminum was annodized with a thin layer or painted; I've also considered a black wrinkle powdercoat which might give it an approximation of the original finish.) Also probably replacing screws and such. Normally I wouldn't want to "restore" an old piece since it tends to depreciate them, however in this case since it's far from a mint example anyway, I'm thinking that it might be nice. Is this a horrible idea?

If it was a rare gun that is a nice used original I would say don't but it sounds like it could use the face lift. The value of it would most likely go up with the restoration, not down.

The SMG 60 is almost a sacred gun as far as older guns go. Very VERY coveted around here and they go almost the instant they hit the BST. I would say it is worth every penny/second to restore it and probably just restore it to its original self without the .55 conversion. The Value would definately go up, and even though it is missing its id plate, if it is a fair looking, good working machine, it is definately worth whatever youd have put into it.
