that was my thought - with the two part body it would be possible to damage one half and mess up the alignment of the threads. If that's the problem I think you're going to be out of luck fixing it - prob time to replace it.

If you need shells, I suggest contacting Raion here on MCB, she has some for sale at $30 a set I think.

If the threads are damaged on one side then does it wiggle at all? Are both damaged....I wonder what kind of abuse a 98 would have to go through in order to bend the barrel threads so that they were damaged.....HMMMMM

yeah, back in the day when I first saw the body with half of the threads on each side - I thought it was a poor design. 10 years later I've never seen a body damaged enough to really effect the seating of the barrel. Impressive work to whoever managed to crack that one.

I've seen damaged barrel threads once. It happens when you have a barrel that is more substantial than the "pot metal" aluminum that the 98 shells are made out of. The one I saw was back in '00 when the marker had been sitting in an odd position at the bottom of a pile of junk in a closet. The time and pressure eventually caused the threads to bend in the receivers. It was a rare thing though.

The only other thing I can think of is this, is it an older model 98 and a newer barrel? IIRC, older 98 barrels fit new (post "lost-mold") tippmann '98's but not vice versa to a certain extent.

Call Tippmann, I am sure they would be happy to help you out.

I had a friend once that cracked an A5 receiver in half while playing. Don't ask, he doesnt even really know how it happened. He just looked at his gun in the middle of a game and it was halfway falling apart.

He called Tippmann and they replaced it for free. They were pretty much just curious how it happened more than anything else.

I've had this problem before!

Make sure you've got a big enough (width) Oring on the barrel to prevent "over-threading". The body is cheap pot metal, and if you tighten the barrel too much it will keep on threading in at an odd angle. A fresh ball detent (don't ask me why) or a fresh barrel Oring will solve the problem.

I said dont ask because I dont know how it happened. Like I said, he just looked down at his gun mid game and his gun was pretty much falling apart and the receiver was in two peices.
