F/A Disassembly Q's

Trying to take apart my "new" F/A for a thorough clean and lube, and I've hit a couple snags.

Snag #1 is that the grip clamshell is effectively fastened together by the sling swivel. Is there an easy way to get those off or do they have to be cut? I was thinking about trying to twist it or something but the gas line is interfering.

Snag #2 is that the brass nut between the gas line and the valve is stuck but good. I haven't tried a socket on it yet, but it's past the point of wrenching (plus I don't want to hork up my receiver if the wrench slips off). Are these Locktited in or something where I need to apply heat/universal solvent, or am I just a pansy?

why do you need to pull the grip apart?

the brass nut most likely has locktite on it. don't be a pansy and apply a little heat but not too much, you don't want to melt any seals.

Because I'm a goon and like to strip things down as far as possible to see how they work. Also I want to check the integrity of the gas line!

Thanks, I'll try a socket first and if that doesn't work I'll put it in the oven. Maybe it'll turn poo brown! (kidding...)

well, if that's the case... make sure you remember how to put it back together when all the trigger parts go flying apart... lol... i say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Hahah..nah, that won't be a problem. I've got the manual and exploded diagrams from vintagerex, and I'm pretty handy. I am more worried about the plastic line being worn, or the valve being miserably dirty.

The sling swivel will bend if you use a pair of pliers on it and twist slightly. you can pinch it in a vise to put it back on.

Thanks!

Socket got the brass fitting out as well, no heat necessary as there appears to have been no thread lock on it. Still can't get the valve out though, DOH!

Valve is probably set in there with a valve stop that should be behind the front bushing of the grip frame.

to remove the valve you have to take out a small key. that small key is located underneath the threaded insert where the front grip frame screws were screwed in. pull or push out that insert and the key will fall out so be carefull not to lose it.
