68 Carbine, Special questions

Hi MCB. I just recently got into the 'old Tippmann' game with a freebie Carb and that Special that was on ebay until two days ago. Just a few questions though:

68 Carbine: It shoots, and after a few new o-rings it doesn't leak. However, even with the velocity screw in all the way, it still shoots around 330. The drive spring is bent at a point just after it leaves the hammer. It looks like it also rubs against the sear- is this normal? Is the spring the same as that in a 98?

68 Special: Still in mail. RCPaintball is out of stock on seals, is there another place besides PBSports for valve parts?
What finish is used on the rear tube? Park? (I wish)
What is the average consistency on one of these?

Thanks all, I'll have pictures up when possible.

I've been fighting the good fight when it comes to my new old 68 Special for a few months now, so when yours finally arrives, please feel free to hit me up with any questions. Maybe I can save you some pain and keep your eyes from bleeding while you pour through hundreds of obscure internet pages. I'm about to get into resealing the marker completely, and seem to have identified all the required o-rings using a .jpg of and old company parts list, so let me know if you would like a copy. Just PM me your email address if so. Did your maker come with a siphon tank? I've only got one and want to build some more, if you've got any idea of the materials required I appreciate the help. If not, I'll let you know what I come up with.

Carbine: Drive spring shouldn't be bent, there should be a guide pin there to keep it straight. Sounds like you just need to trim a couple loops off your spring. It may touch the sear slightly, that's normal and shouldn't be an issue. Highly recommend you try to find an RVA (or stock with integral RVA), as it's much easier than trying to use the front screw, and you don't have to worry about messing up the power tube.

Special: Only place I've seen for valve parts is randomly on forums, or PBSports on eBay. Prices are a bit high but not exactly common items. The finish is def not Parkerizing, it looks like bluing to me.

Thanks for the replies.. In case you're wondering, the Carbine has a drive spring pin, the spring is just kinked beyond there for some reason. I'm sure I'd get some looks at the field for being "old school", clipping springs at the chrono.. Too bad ~90% of the people I've seen at CPX wouldn't know what I'm doing.

It had some kind of CO2 tank. I don't remember if it's a 12 or 20, can't seem to get to ended auctions on ebay. It almost definitely needs hydro so I'll try to get pictures then.

Also, the back tube and hammer looked like there was surface rust. This should be fun, find the brillo pads.
