Modernizing Rasorback III

So I met up with some members on here for the western pa pump game. and SN Toter was rocking this awesome Rasorback III but the problem was it cant really use modern small bore paint. So we got to talking and he let me bring it home to take some measurements and see what I could come up with. After thinking about it I came up with this list of things to do to "modernize" this classic marker.

1. split body and barrel
2. thread breach for AC threads
3. Thread remaining barrel for AC threads
4. Bore barrel for freak inserts.

5. Enlarge handle ID not enough meat
6. Sleeve Handle with black delrin. see No. 5

I have already started but I'll start taking some pics of the progress as I work on it.

so far I have split the body and barrel and I have the breach bored ready for threading. but I am going to have to wait till my cocker barrel tap comes in.

The picture is bi-polar for me. Didn't work at first so I reposted and removed the "q" from "qimg" and then it worked, so then I removed it and now it shows up every other refresh...

Is the 4-jaw a self centering one? Is there something in the way for a 3-jaw?

tjd10684 10-10-2013 08:33 PM

No its not a self centering one. There is nothing really in the way with the 3 jaw but their were a couple slots that were close to the jaw and I did not want to run the risk of the jaw falling in during a cut. You might also notice some shim stock on the 4 jaw that was to remove the run out. I measured the run out in 2 places at once with indicators and used .05MM shim stock to even it out. Maybe it would be better to say I made sure the axis of the body is first parallel with the shim stock then used the 4 jaw to make it collinear.
