Crazy DAM thougts

first off I am not sure this is going to even be feasible but its a good place to put my notes.

I recently got a hold of a dye dam. I have been looking to try out some good mag fed action for a while after getting my feet wet with my hammer 7. Well from how it works so far I am both impressed and not at the same time. I like the ease of maintenance and the internal reg. The problem I am having now is that I have all V1 internals and am having a heck of a time getting it up to speed. I still have to call dye about getting the new parts. but this just came to me. The problem is that the solenoid keeps leaking from over pressure. add to that the fact that I want to go pure mag fed and the different modes are kinda pointless. This leaves me in a maybe unique situation where maybe just maybe I can get rid of the batteries and board and install an adapter manifold to use a Fabco MSV-(1/2) valve to actuate the bolt.

http://fabco-air.com/pdf/Sec_13.pdf

This came to me because of the design of the bolt. Look closely at the designs of the DAM bolt and the GOG Enemy bolt

http://www.gogpaintball.com/docs/manuals/enmey.pdf
http://www.dyepaintball.com/manuals/...al-1-30-lr.pdf

what you should notice is that both bolts are an unbalanced spool design with dual orings on the tail.

This leads me to think that if I can make an adapter manifold that mates up the the solenoid mounting position I should be able to just run a 3 way valve as the bolt trigger mechanism just like an enemy or a pneumatic ion. And if I do it just right It should be a reverse able mod ideally with no metal removal from the original parts. Just take out the solenoid and board (end eyes I guess) screw down the adapter manifold and away you go.

Let me know what you guys think and if anyone has the bottom end of a DAM modeled, and the top side of the trigger frame, I sure would be interested in that model

Like your idea, think this is doable
While I don't own a DAM(because of your stated issues) I know they're very similar to PMRs
I did something similar to this with a 2011 PMR and a SMAV from DW/Yodas mech Ion kit awhile ago
While it cycled and was consistant, the crono speed was lacking just like when electro.
My experience with several version's PMRs lead me to think the bolt&carrier take too much volume in the dump chamber. When I switched to a TechT bolt on my 2007 electro PMR it would crono
I hope to increase the hose diameter and larger barbs, fittings, valve and hose to try this again

Sorry, that's classified.

I think it's a great idea. I'm a geek, and think a mechanical dam would be awesome. I've been riding the fence on nabbing a dam. I like most of the features and mag ability it offers, but the plethora of modes seems excess.

One day I may get one. I don't think I've ever bought a mainstream marker brand new..

Thats the same reason I got mine. I got a good deal on one used so thats why I jumped on it. I thought that the firing modes would be nice but in reality you just go thru mags way too fast so its pretty much just stuck on semi. The other reason for wanting a mod that does not harm the body and is reverse able is when the box mag comes out odds are I'll be all over it and then those silly firing modes become potentially useful again.

The plan today was to get some dimensions of the bottom side of the dam to start looking into clearances and mounting options. alas something else came up and I ended up building shelves for finished products instead.

I just ordered the upgraded parts from dye and I just thought I would just say how easy their customer service is to deal with. actually I might be buying more dye guns now

Hope you try this,if you do I'll get a DAM
No reason if it works and your committed to mech you couldn't rig your own boxmag via a microswitch, relay or pulse feed system like the Draxxus(GI) Pulse, or using the existing eyes for an interface with the hopper guts might work too, they're already in the right spot in the breech.
The preview of the Dye models a little huge for my taste

Well the plan for the moment is when the upgrade parts come in I'll take it all apart again and get some measurements of the underside of the body and model it up in SW.

Once I have a base line model to start with then I can start messing around with different designs. As I have been thinking about it though I keep thinking making a enemy hybrid might be the way to go. They already have a nice compact unit and with SSC making adjustable cores (rockets I think he calls them) that may end up falling together nicely.
