No man, that's like calling it Ragnaroks. You can have dibbs but at least get the team name right, too many get it wrong.
Anyway, it looks like my flight won't be getting back to Newark on Friday till about 8:30pm so I won't be showing up till early Saturday morning. Do you know if I can pick up my packet Saturday morning or will I need someone to pick up my packet Friday?

And if anyone is wondering, the Westin Chicago North Shore is a really nice hotel. I wonder how far I am from Challenge Park?

I post this just because I enjoy bickering and grammar.

comĚmanĚdo (kə-măn'dō)
n., pl. -dos or -does.

A small fighting force specially trained for making quick destructive raids against enemy-held areas.
A member of such a force.

An organized force of Boer troops in South Africa.
A raid made by such a force.
[Afrikaans kommando, from Dutch commando, unit of troops, from Spanish comando, from comandar, to command, from Late Latin commandāre. See command.]

If you look above the defintion you will see: pl. , this stands for plural and list how you add letters to a word to make it plural.

When I invite Carter's Commandos, I am inviting the plural Commandos, the individual members which make up the team Carter's Commando. If you were to invite the members of Team Ragnarok our plural would be Ragnarokers, as in "We invited a bunch of Ragnarokers over for a good match of quidditch."

Traditionally, one does not refer to the individual members of a Commando as "Commandos". Such was an affectation coined by newsmen during WW2 when the British military revived the use of the word "Commando", derived from the name of the Boer hit and run units that so harried the Brit troops in South Africa.

Think of it like calling members of the US Marine Corps as "Corpers" or something.

The team is called referred to as the Commando and the members of same ought to be called "Carterites".

Btw: Which night is Delta throwing their party? Sunday?

Hi,

Not going there about the Commando thing. I got an ear full about it the last time I said anything about it.

Either way, I am not committing to any thing this time around. Everytime I did, I would get screwed somewhere else. Like the last two times I tried to play an EMR event. June it was landscaping. August for PP IV it was my wife's Birthday party. I actually had it on the Calendar and everything. Still got overruled. Holy s__t I am turning into that guy hacker... Yup I just join the Hacker club. Someone please remove the paintball guns out of my house so I don't have to carry this burden of needing to play.

See ya there maybe... just jinxed it.... I would just be there on Saturday anyway.

Excellent scenario by Viper as per usual, and EMR hosted a great game. Played for the Aircav and had a great time. We bugged out early today, so I have no idea of the final outcome. If any one knows it'd be great to here about it.

Boy am I sore and tired

I don't really want to stir the pot but this doesn't make too much sense.

comĚmanĚdo (kə-măn'dō)
n., pl. -dos or -does. - (American Heritage Dictionary)

Carter's Commando:

Commando = group or individual - "There is a squad of commando over that ridge." or "That dude is a commando."

Commandos = group - "Has anyone seen the commandos?"

U.S. Marine Corps:

Marine = individual - "She's a Marine."

Marines = group - "There is a group of Marines over that hill." or "Those Marines just f***ed those f***ers up good."

Corps/Corpers = nonsense

They really are not analogous at all. I really don't care, nor does my opinion matter at all, but this is just common sense. I've never heard anyone refer to a group of "Marine".

By the way the game was awesome. This was my first time at EMR and I can't wait to go back. Even though we (Air Cav) didn't prevail, it was one of the best games I've ever played. Even though the ref squad was short handed and the paint liked to bounce and one of the key role players didn't make it, it was still one of the best games I've played. And even though the Air Cav was way outnumbered in the final battle and should have got the help of the VC then instead of on Saturdays dinner battle, it was still one of the best games I've played.

Did I mention it was one of the best games I've played?

Yeah, really didn't matter who won to me, I had a blast playing with the Aircav. Only lousy part of being on that side was hoofin' it up that hill to get back to our insertion point at the castle . My first insertion on Sunday morning invloved walking up the hill behind wall three, then all the way down into the valley below margaritaville, only to get shot out and have to walk all the way back up... ugh.

Three moments in the game that will forever stick with me:
1)Saturday after lunch, Ben and I inserted at the castle, just after a small vc force had been cleared out. So we walked up the wall 3 hill. We were about to just head back down toward margaritaville when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. Ben pops up into the field, and sure enough, there's a squad of about 10 red players in the tall grass preparing to move down the hill. We quickly flanked around them and got behind them, taking up position near the little fort that's up there. As soon as we got there, a squad of blue team moved up the hill in front of the red squad and they started exchanging fire, so we pounced. I hit the right, ben runs around the left and we open fire. The group of 3 or 4 red I initially opened up on turn and start waving, yelling "We're red! We're red!" I respond "I know!" and keep firing. 30 secs later there whole squad is walking off, congratulating us on getting the drop on them.
2)During a push up through Margaritaville, I slithered up the tall grass next to the speedball field. Soon, the rest of our side apparently got pushed back, cause I found myself completely surrounded by red players, though none of them new I was there. Did I mention I had about 20 rounds left? Suddenly I spot a red player about 20 feet away, bunkered up, but giving me a nice side profile. Figuring I'll get swarmed as soon as I shoot ( was shooting my prolite, not very quiet), I take the shot anyway since I'm low on ammo. I hit him in the pack, and his buddy checks him, he's out. I wait for the oncoming swarm and...nothing. Another player runs up to a close bunker, probably 15 feet away giving me a perfect clear shot. Bam, another one down, but again, no one comes for me... This went on for a few minutes, I shot around 8 or 10 moire players before I ran out of ammo( i missed with my last ball, dang). So there I am sitting in the weeds, still surrounded by red players, with no less than 4 of them within 20 feet of me( how did they not here my prolite?!?) So I point my gun in the direction of the closest guy that I would have a shot on and just open up dry firing. He nearly jumped out of his skin, which made it all worthwhile. Before anyone could shoot me I just called myself out and walked off. They all seemed quite amazed at my location relative to there's
3)At about 10 pm sat night, I decided to hit up one more insertion for the night game. Got to the corner of the speedball field from margaritaville. Over the course of the next hour, I ran point diagonal right across the speedball field toward there base. Through a combination of stealth, longballing, army crawling, and cover fire for the flanks, our side made it all the way to the base( I was the first one there ) and forced a hot insertion for the blue team. Best experience I've had playing at night yet. Good stuff.

Bass, lots of words change meanings from their original form. Sure, it can make sense if you apply those permutations, but the word "Commando" traditionally refers to the unit itself and not the members.

As I have said before, "Commandos" is a bastardization of the original word and meaning.

A member of a "Commando" was not a "commando" (they were called Boers).

How about this analogy; A "sewing circle" is a group of sewers, right?
Do you call them "circlers" or "sewers"?

The word commando describes the grouping, not the individual members of the group.

Also, I am glad y'all had fun at EMR. I missed you all.

D

Edit: Just looked up "Commando" in this Random House dictionary that I have here on my desk;

Definition is 1) A specially trained military unit... (2) Chiefly U.S.: A member of such unit. (3) In South Africa: an armed force raised for service against marauders.

Suffice it to say, the "Chiefly U.S." use is a subsequent mangling of the original concept that occurred during WW2 with less than educated news reporters.

If you want to stick to the U.S. definition, fine, but it ignores the tradition that we are trying to celebrate.

A deer, many deer -not many deers.
a sheep, many sheep -not many sheeps.

There are analogies.
