Removing ASA

Has anyone taken the front ASA out of the body of the VM? I want to take mine out, but don't want to monkey things up...

ust chuck it in a vice, heat it up with a torch for a while, or run some boiling water over it before you chuck it in, then take some vice grips and turn, should come off easy enough if you apply enough heat

I've got a grill with a thermometer and threw it in there for a couple seconds, then spun the ASA off with channel-locks. Haven't aired it up, will there be any integrity issues?

Never had a problem with overheating it; I actually prefer to throw it snout-down in a pot of boiling water. Then I can wander off and get the vice, heavy gloves, etc ready, come back after a little while (5-10 minutes, but I'm sure less would work, my point is with boiling water you don't have to worry about cooking the metal, you just have to worry about boiling the pot dry), throw it on the vice and twist 'er off.

I use a piece of leather scrap on each side of the body when I put it in the vice; cardboard would work too. And I have a pair of channel-locks with duct tape on the jaws so as not to mangle the ASA.

Once it's hot enough the ASA comes out fairly easily.

Now that you have it off, its not a bad time to drill out an internal EC. Not a huge improvement, but if you do not like the looks of external components (ie ec, reg, etc), it does make a small performance improvement.

Enough in fact that the factory started doing the mod to the factory guns near the end of the run.

If I remove the ASA what thread is it on the inside of the marker? What would you recommend to plug it?
