The impression that I've gotten so far is that they like higher pressures. Is there a recommended/proven output minimum psi for them to function? I've surfed VM Empire, and seen the mods one can do to increase efficiency, improve accuracy, reduce weight, etc., but I'd like to hear from those that have done it, and hear what differences they have noticed.

FWIW, I recently pulled my mid-`90's EXC-68 out of storage after abut ten years of disuse. Other than an Armson barrel, the gun is stock. The o-rings were mostly shot (Taylor slushie machine gasket lube: bad choice on my part!), but after a thorough cleaning, new rings all around, and an HPA tank on the bottom line, she was running perfectly.
I'd only used CO2 in the past, so I wasn't sure how the gun would respond to air. I'm using a 68cu/4,500 psi tank with an 800 psi regulator. I've got the main valve set on the largest opening and the bolt adjusted about halfway open. Last wekend I was able to shoot consistently in the 280-285 range all day, with no hassles.
The gun
is an air hog, but even starting with only 3,000# in the tank, I was able to go through a case of paint without refilling. And...nothing else on that field sounded anywhere as cool as the VM!
