I know I can make a ball detent myself, I already made one from car floor mat material...but I'm looking for better material. Something easily obtainable...like say a Rubbermaid product of some kind. Any ideas / experience?

i made some outta thick gasket paper but it wont last to long so i just make a **** load of them

I used some foam from a JT soft ear. It worked OK for a while but got bent and pinched by the bolt. I'm planning on keeping the feed off when not in use to save my detents. I've been trying to find some sort of perfect material too.

That's a good Idea, I didn't think of trying wire. Did you make the detent for the front and back of the ball like the fingers? There's a ton of space for rollback and I think that's part of what causes my chopping problems.

I've seen those. $10+$6 shipping for a tiny piece of rubber that will wear out, no thanks. I want like 5 so I never need them again but I'm not paying $50 for that. That's more than I paid for the VM. I'll make my own or wait to see what PTP sells them for.

I spoke extensively with the guy at PTP when I called to order some parts...like you I wanted to get a few. He said they were almost getting some made, but the laser cutter guy who was going to make them broke the laser and can't afford to replace it. They're working on another solution and should have some soon. The material will be better and will not dry rot like the old ones did. Also, when they DO finally make them they'll make enough for a lifetime. Don't quote me on this, my memory has been bad lately...
