vm had problems at the field yesterday

what does this mean?

i screw a full 7oz tank into the asa under the barrel. all is dandy for about 7 - 8 seconds. then co2 shoots out the hole in the side of the asa. obviously a problem.

Put an oring in the ASA, then screw in your tank

Trust me, it sounds silly but it works.

I'll add that Basbas's is advice is sound. What is happening is the liquid CO2 is getting past the tank CO2 ring and the valve is fully opened. By placing an extra oring into the face of the ASA you are lessoning the pin depression and adding an extra seal between the face of the valve and the ASA. The pressure from the torque you apply in screwing in the tank helps keep the oring/seal in place and less prone to shrinking.

It's a great trick and works well in soooooo many setups, not just the VM.

Just make sure to screw the tank securely against the o-ring. I've done this on cocker asa's to keep the reg turned where I wanted it, and the o-ring got sucked into the gas port because it wasn't snug.

Funny, I ran my VM on a siphon tank for 10 years, and never had a "shrinkage problem".

Maybe its an undersized oring? or a burr in the ASA threads?
