alternate safety?

Hello again all. I am contemplating making a rear cocking mechanism for my VM, but have come to the realization that is would take away the safety on the hammer. Has anyone ever made a safety for the VM or have any ideas on how to make one?

All blowbacks already have the best safety there is: Tip to the side, and decock.

However, you have lots of options for a conventional safety.

You could leave the existing safety, but use a very SHORT knob instead. To secure the collar, you could use a nut on the threaded cocking knob to hold it.

If you wanted the sides covered, and not use the stock safety, another alternative is to add a nut to the threads on the outside of the rear knob. then you could add a lever, so if the gun is fired, the lever catches the nut.

Or you could drill into the trigger mechanism, and thread in a screw/pin with a large slot cut into it. Place it just under the primary sear, or behind the secondary sear. So that when it is "on", it bumps into the safety pin, but does not touch it when "off".

Hmm

well the second option you gave I am not sure will work because I am going to be making the knob be able to slide back in and not move while the gun operates (so I don't give myself a black eye lol) the thirs one about putting a pin by the sear sounds good but not sure of total sear movement and where the placement should be. Plus how big of a slot are we talking about?

Ive always told people the best safety is 3' above their rear end. Keep your finger off the trigger and your barrel condom on.

Easy, no modifications.

LOL

Yeah that is the obvious one, but I am not always the only one to use this gun and I want to idiot proof it lol.

Then again you may goof in your design and end up making a good FA system (happened to the post it note guys...)

With a rear-cocking VM, why not have the cocking knob twist to safety like the traditional VM knob?

Well..

This one is going to be cocking off the bolt on top not the hammer. Plus the cocking rod is going to be able to move independent of the bolt so once it is cocked I can push it back in and it won't move when the gun cycles. So the main option I am looking at is adding a button safety under the sear like HP said, just waiting for my new trigger assembly to get here so I can get a better look (and so i have a back up if I screw up lol)

Not knowing the linkage between the bolt and cocking pin, if possible you can twist the cocking pin to hold on to the bolt. Like a grove in a channel in the bolt.

Best of luck with the trigger safety. I would think that if the designer of the VM fore went the push pin safety to lock the sear, there might be a reason.

Have fun and keep us posted with pictures.
