In a pinch, there is also the "no tool" method.

With tank removed, remove internals. Then remove valve set screws.
Hold rear of gun towards something soft (ie pillow, jacket), and screw in tank. This will blast the valve out of its place.

To reinstall, hold the vm pointed upwards. Balance the valve, cupseal, and spring on top of the hammer, and carefully slide upward. (position the valve before sliding).

I've done these methods many times for emergencies. But just get the 1/4" rod. You can find them at any hardware store.

nick, how many holes have you put in walls before learning the 'something soft' part of that trick ?

My valve is stuck in my VM, set screws are out, valve too will thread in but I can't pull the valve out. When I get a tank with some air in it I'll try blowing it out ..

Many, many holes.
I added a "pro-connect", which is a quick-disconnect with a built-in checkvalve. many times I remove the valve, and forget the gun was pressurized.... "BANG"

But not just me. At the field I worked at, the ceiliing of the proshop was full of dents from many VM owners forgetting to degas the gun while stripping.

What sometimes happens is the valve screws push against the valve threads, and add a little "burr". This is normal, but it makes it a pain to get that valve out. Also, if the valve screws were over tightened, they can distort the valve shape just enough to make it tough to remove.

Here is a good trick for you, that will not require the co2 tank.
I assume you got that 1/4" threaded rod? Is the hole length threaded?

If so, thread the rod into the valve. Then slide a large washer over the 1/4" bolt. It needs to be biggerr then the lower tube. then thread on a 1/4" nut. Keep eventually it will push against the washer, and PULL the valve out without damaging anything.

I've done this trick before when I didn't have a co2 tank, and the valve was stuck. If my instructions make no sense, I can draw something up.

Here are the tools you need the top is the valve tool (if you don't have one get a 12" long 3/8" course thread bolt like the one in the middle) and a 5/32" allen wrench
