Chris Mader has a timeline of sorts on his vm68, and thats better then anything I'd come up with.
Dating any paintgun, either by seriel, or by parts is troublesome in that they tend to produce different parts through subcontractors in very large batches.
This creates overlaps in production. Plus, you never knew how old a "new" gun was when you bought it. I STILL see VM68s being sold as "new" occationally.
The rough list I made above isnt too bad, but its based on my memory which is poor at best. I only remember seeing a handfull of camo-annodized rails back around 1990 or so. The VMs were originally unpopular. Everyone was buying the 68-Specials 1990-1991.
Sometime in 1991, they went from the purple camo to silver camo with the black anno rails. Then in 1992, they went plastic.... which we all hated since they broke when as soon as you tightened them.
