New to the VM-68.

So I received a free VM-68 from my boss 2 days ago. I took it home, cleaned and oiled it up, aired it up and no leaks at all. I'm impressed. There are very little scratches on it, and it is in pristine condition. But I have some questions.

Where can I get a Back ASA for it?

How do I adjust the velocity using the valve, and not the bolt?

Where can I buy a new spring for it?

How much do these markers run at now-a-days?

I have a synthetic stock that I would love to drop the VM into, is there anyway that I can do this?

Thanks for the information.

I'm not aware of any stores that still carry them, but there are always some floating around the BST here or on Ebay. Personally, I'd check Bacci's sale thread first, he seems to have a bit of everything.

Same thing for a new mainspring. I believe you can also replace the old mainspring with an automag mainspring behind the hammer, but I don't recall if you can just drop it in or not.

There are four holes around the outside of the valve. Which hole you use will determine your velocity. i.e, If gas is going through the biggest hole, your velocity will be higher but less gas will be used to recock, and vice versa. You'll need either a proper Vm valve tool or just a simple 3/8" lag bolt. Once you thread the tool into the face of the valve, it's fairly simple to rotate it to the position you need.

They seem to run from about $30 to ~$120 or so for a really nice one

If bacci does not have one, it would not take much effort to bolt an AUtomag-style vert adapter to the rear plug of the VM.

Like a shoulder stock? In the old days, they used to make all sorts of shoulder stocks that attached to those rear plugs. At one point SHeridan started shipping the VM with the plugs pre-drilled to accept accessories like that.

FOr something like a Car-15 stock, some have had luck using a simple plug from a hardware store to adapt the stock.

FOrtunetly, with the VM, there is tons of places to attach things. The metal is so thick, and there are tons of space everywhere.

Now I was reading about the Automag spring, but I was a little confused. You put it behind the hammer. How would that work? Because the main spring in mine is about 6" long, and I have an automag spring that is 2" long.

The short answer is you are moving the spring from behind the bolt to behind the hammer, and you only have 2" of space, instead of 6"......

Its mostly a "drop in" mod. You just have to play around with removing the bumper, and trying a differnt size screw, etc. (so that your cocking knob still works). I ran mine with an automag spring since 1994 or so.

It also makes setting up an external FPS adjuster trivial. Just drill/tap a hole through the lower plug, and thread in a bolt that can adjust spring tension.
