Thoughts on the newer Angel's?

Any thoughts on the newer Angel's? Something like the G7.

I had a LCD way back when and it had a lot of bounce when shooting fast.

I know some like them and some hate them....

Thanks

Current angels are great if you ask me. They are getting better and better.

Basically an 05 speed and newer is an excellent gun. Including g7's

I would start by looking at the 06 Speed, or Gat as they are mostly called, as it has the Speed board with the G7 body and internals. The 05 and earlier speeds are just rehashes and not really a performance upgrade from each other. The only really notable thing about the 05 speeds (or 5peed, as some people call them) is that it was the first speed to have an available 45 frame.

The G7's are nice, but I don't feel they offer enough of a performance gain to warrant the higher prices they command. That's not to say don't buy one if you get a good deal though.

Be aware that starting at the G7 Fly, which includes the 06 speed, the threads were changed, so the older barrels wont fit. The eyes are rather fragile, as they are 'ribbon' eyes, not actual wire, and they do tend to have alot of breakage issues. Most of the used G7 and up Angels I see have either had the ribbon recently replaced, or need it replaced. And it's about $50 to get a new eye ribbon.

You still have to deal with the annoyance of an internal battery unless you move up to the Angel 1, or buy an aftermarket board. That is really my only major gripe about the Angel platform. Took them long enough to get it done.

06 speeds are different than gats.

G7's are the last angels to use regular long angel threads. G7 flys use shortened angel threads and I think so does the a1 unless it uses even shorter threads which I doubt.

I would get a gun in the 300 dollar range, OR make the jump to an angel one (a1)

300 dollars can find you an 05 speed which will have laser eyes which are vastly superior to sensi and cops, and good stock components that dont need messing with, and a fantastic trigger.

Once your price gets around 450 - 500 and around there I would completely rid myself of thoughts on those guns and make the jump to the A1.

The a1 is a completely different gun than the rest of the angels, a huge change, definitely the next gen, way smaller and basically better in every way.

But 05 speeds and a4 flys and up (g7 platform including 06 speeds, gats, g7 fly)...these guns are fantastic. I would just try and keep the cost under 400 dollars unless you are picking up an A1 which can be found for 600 or so.

angel-owners.com can load you up with info

for the money do not buy anything above the G7 line--> alot of A1's have problems..

I say A4fly or serious tourny G7fly---> but yes get the A1 if you personally know who is selling it and you can try it out first..

go to pbreview.com

hmm...well I certainly wouldnt listen to reviews

movie reviews, restaurant reviews... usuallyare (99.98% of the time) the opposite of what I think...paintball is no different. Had I listened, I never would've bought a new A1 with all updated goodies, minus the 3-piece eye covers. I come from a long line of Angels, the original one mostly, and have had over half a dozen ranging from LED's to LCD's, stock and custom ones all alike...and finally the A1. I was timid because of reviews but have been in paintball long enough (11+) years to know my way around...and WDP or whatever its new name is, has always been a really good company. I've only heard of there blunders, never experienced or seen them for myself. So take my, as well as everyone elses opinion with a grain of salt. One of my most favorite Angels was a 2000 Dark Angel LCD. Awesome. The A1, is Very impressive, and to be honest, too lightweight. I know how that sounds...but I'm a bigger guy used to grippin some machinery. It flat out pumps paint out, Very Well. Then angain, maybe I'm biased...I do own 5 Angels...4 of which are Eclipse LED's... Try 'em out for yourself, lucky for you, prices on used ones are frighteningly low

there are three sections of angel.

A4 and older

A4fly to the g7 -eyes ect. whole new design same old barrel threading

A1- newer - new design shorter barrel.

i have a4 fly from a engineer that has every angle made, including the sup subcategory like the gat, speed, ect.

just get a newer 2 categorys and you cant go wrong.

This "review" is written kind of backwards, but here goes.

A1 should have stayed on steak. Total crap. Loss of the legendary build quality of the previous Angels. Different barrels once again than the previous Angels, including the newly debut'ed G7 Fly threads, so even your "new" fly barrels can't be properly utilized w/o a spacer or beauty ring if you will. The tool kit (guages in particular) from the older Angels will not work, requiring the purchase of all new tools to set up the LPR, etc. Bad eye alignment on the first batch, valve on a second revision almost immediatly, the new low friction ram very service oriented and lending to a clanky feel. Just a rushed and botched attempt at a new smaller, lighter flagship. Only real innovation IMO was the OLED display, but even the mode selector is in a poorly thought out location and format, IMO.

All of the G7 platform are excellent markers and IMO the best of the Angel markers. This includes the Gat, Fly's, 06 Speed and G7 (standard if you will). As has already been noted the barrel threads changed after the standard G7. I am not sure about all, but many of this platform went back to the 4.8 volt battery that was used in the 03/04 Speed and A4 series. Available in both 90 and 45* frame versions. Many of this line went back to a LCD board with many programming possibilities. The best improvement, other than looks, on this line was the cammed lever for the ram that dealt with the rollback issue inherent in every previous version of Angel. The ribbon eyes have been mentioned as a problem, but when was the last time you felt like just pulling on the eye wires of any other marker? Leave them alone and they last just fine(also knowing how to properly remove them). Throw in an aftermarket board for 9V operation.

Everything previous to the G7 will be getting harder and harder to find parts for as they have quit being produced. Not that this is undeard of in todays market...lol

The 05 Speed is a transition marker that incorporates some of the good changes we came to see in the G7 platform. However other than the 9v battery as standard and the new lines its much the same as the older Angels in that the ram/bolt still has rollback issues.

All the 03 Speed through the A4 are in essence the same marker with some minor differences mainly in boards, ranging from LED to LCD and the addition of eyes in the later "fly" models or if you can find a Euro Speed. Good solid platform. All 90* frames. Really fast, but Sensi really blows....Note that these marker and all previous mentioned models are run best on LP output tanks unless modified or by changing the regulator.

The IR3 was another of the transition markers. As far as I know the debut of Angels 90* frame. It was the go between from the LCD to the Speed series. Has a larger heavier 6v battery (higher voltage) than the speeds. Very programmable board like the LCD model. Debut of the cops (sensi) system that was later scrapped in the Speed platform for just...sucking.

I am not personally very familiar with the IR3's and particualarly the LCD and earlier models.
