| Rec Poster | Circuit board repair?
Hello all, I have my Adrenaline LCD with an Angry Angel board that just came back from Tadao for flashing. However, when I initially removed the board from the marker for shipping...mistakes were made... Now, the port where the ribbon cable connects is loose. By applying slight pressure to the 9 'o clock position, the eyes come on and function. Without that pressure, i.e. any time I'm not physically holding it, the eyes are effectively disconnected. ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us I'd like to know what my options for repair may be, if any. I had the board and eyes installed through fixmyangel.com, but as I understand it these boards cannot be found anymore. Would fixmyangel.com still perform service/be able to fix it (if anyone has dealt with them recently) ? Or is there another way I can get this working again? |

Sorry I'm no Angel expert, but I do know a thing or two about PCB repair. If you are talking about the beige connector on the bottom right side of the picture, then the first thing to check is if the connector is through hole or not, if you see a soldered connection on the back of the board that lines up with the pins on the top as though the pins go through the board then it becomes a pretty easy fix.

Oh I see it now, better pictures would indeed help. Also pictures of any connector on the cable side would be of interest too.

These are the best I can do, it's surprisingly hard to get my digital camera to focus on an area so small. Basically the big black port to the right side of the board is the problem area. It doesn't appear to be pinned through the board itself, rather it lies upon something to connect. ![]() By bretteas at 2011-09-03 ![]() By bretteas at 2011-09-03 ![]() By bretteas at 2011-09-03 ![]() By bretteas at 2011-09-03 Last edited by BrettEAS; 09-03-2011 at 04:04 PM. If it's surface mount that makes things harder. does it look something like this?

I believe that's the idea, though knowing nothing of this myself does make it a bit harder. There are four silver points on the board itself, to correspond to the four "teeth" in the plug, which the ribbon cable connects to. I think the arrangement is similar to what you illustrated. The plug appears to ride on top of the "L" shapes in your diagram, four in total, and two to a side. |

From your pictures that what I gathered. Check to make sure that all those little L shaped legs are intact and that none of the solder beads on the board are broken. If it's just a solder bead then you are seriously lucky as it is a very easy fix. If not this is still fixable if you have a soldering iron, some solder braid, a small dental pick like device, some solder, flux/rosin and some rubbing alcohol and of course a replacement plug. If the plug exists, which it obviously does, digi-key probably has it.
