Three Q's Involving Cocker Body Milling...

I have 3 q's, maybe someone can answer them?

1.) Is there much of a difference between halfblock and midblock, besides that with halfblock theres "half a backblock" (don't know what to call it) and with midblock theres a sled? And I mean performance wise?
2.) Could you cut a square (top tube only) out of the back of a cocker, between the feedneck and the end of the marker (but leaving 1/2" of the end of the cocker so the backblock has something to... not hit but be there...), and still have the marker function? Would the bolt bind, or get dirty fast or anything?
3.) In the lower tube, right before the IVG, I sometimes see slots milled out, exposing the spring, cocker rod, and I think the back half of the hammer. This is just a cosmetic mod, that may allow dirt into the lowertube, right?

Thanks.

1) Midblocking is basically milling slots in the body (top and sides) to allow the use of a sled and shorter bolt. There is usually more metal left on it than halfblocking. Halfblocking basically removes most everything on the top tube from shortly after the feedneck back.

2) You could. It will get dirtier quicker, but to clean the bolt takes a few seconds at most. The bolt should not bind if there is enough metal (1/2 inch on either end would be plenty.)

3) Correct

halfblock doesnt mean there is half a back block. There is no backblock with half or midblock cockers, but there is a sled with both.

Oh! I never saw that! So I guess the only real difference is how much metal you want removed from the body? Cool! Ty.
