Pump Kit Leak?

Hey folks,

I had picked up a pumped Lightning a while back for my buddy and found it leaked down the barrel. I replaced the valve with an ANS; everything was fine so I turned it over to him... at which point it chilled in a gearbag for several months.

We took it to the field last weekend. It aired up just fine but wouldn't shoot, so I adjusted the regulator (a Black Magic) and then increased the hammer pressure through the IVG. Now it was letting a little air escape but not enough to make velocity. After a few shots, something blew out and the gun now leaks from where the pump guide threads into the body.

Any thoughts? I'm considering doing a full internal swap out but didn't know if I should check other things first. And yes, the bolt was right-side-up.

Thanks,
Matt

Sounds to me like the o-ring that seals the pump guide and body is bad. I'm figuring if it was good, regardless of the internals it should not leak at the guide rod.

Sounds like the o ring on the pump guide rod. If all else use Teflon on half of the threads, should help but not permanently. I say make sure the o ring is good.

I had the same issue on my first sniper build, should definitely be that o ring.

I would check the reg pressure. Could be putting out so much pressure that the valve can't open properly.
Should be in the 350 range.

I think it's a mix of the above two. Gotta get the marker from him and then I'll see what's up.

Just got the marker back and confirmed it - reg all the way out, pieces of the o-ring sticking out from behind the pump guide.

Anyone know if it's possible to pick up just that o-ring?

Check with Bacci, I bought some for pre2k kits. He might have the larger ones. If not I would bring the guide rod to a local store and see what fits.

What brand pump kit is it? Maybe someone could measure their appropriate o ring.

Harbor Freight sells large o ring kits for $7-8. Tons of sizes, they have both dash and metric kits available in buna-n and Viton.

I'll look into that. Thanks! Also gonna call PBGateway since they sell the rod by itself and I need some other stuff anyhow.
