Eye hole cover (non-spec size)

Long story short, I have a WGP body that has eye holes that do not seem to follow the standard spec for size and dimensions. The top screw hole looks to be #6 and the distance between the two holes is bigger it should be. Doc's eye cover doesn't fit.

Can I just tap the two holes and insert trimmed screws? I don't care what it looks like, I just don't want debris getting in.

Yep, you can widdle a stick and plug it if ya want. Just make sure whatever you use doesn't extend into the bore, but you know that.

They make covers but the ones I have seen are for standard spec eye holes. I don't know what mine were drilled for but covers will not fit.

It is in the wrong place for a second detent, it will stop the paint from entering the breech.
