cp reg on cocker

I got my first cocker pump last week and it was first shooting just over 200 fps turned the reg down and started shooting around 290 but it bounces around a lot like it will be at 290 + or - 2 .then jump to 303 or down to 285. the cp reg was on it when I got her. so I don't know how old it is, wondering if it needs broke in? or if it might be something else.

Bore matching the paint , and sweet spotting the reg will work wonders. Also hold the pump handle forward will give you more consistent results.

^^^ and since you are unsure about the reg status, do a quick clean up and lube on it ( don`t lube the shims on the reg)

Anther thing which way did you turn the adjustment screw on the reg? CP regs are backwards I do believe.

Actually, that sounds pretty good to me (maybe my paintball guns just suck?). You might turn down the reg a little more to avoid spiking above 300FPS.

turned clockwise to turn down. but my fps went up. when I get my air filled back up I should be able to dial it in better. I almost don't want to touch it, the pump feels great and I have a way of taking things to far and screwing up. but that's also how I learn (right). do regs have a break in period? or is that just some crap I should have ignored?

If you lowered the pressure and the GPS went up, the gun was over-pressurized. You need to sweet spot the reg pressure. OR just put the pressure at around 280-300psi and adjust velocity with the IVG.

thank you all so much for the help. got her air'd back up turned the reg down till it actually dropped velocity and tuned it in to about 290 fps and the pump is still soft and smooth. like I said I'm new to cockers so I'm ecstatic. here's some pics

Good looking pump and glad to hear you have her dialed in. Be careful, or you may get bitten by the autococker bug i.e. build/buy at least 1 or 2 more autocockers by the end of the year. +/- 2 modifier for using MCB b/s/t.

It sounds like the reg is working perfectly if it's 290 +/-2. The random shots are probably balls that are slightly larger than the others. Those balls fit tighter in the barrel so their FPS are higher than the rest.
