Operating pressure for Outkast pump?

I'm putting together an Outkast pump that MightyMike0 traded to me. I'm going to try using a BL Torpedo reg with it, but the reg only goes up to 600 psi. Is that going to be enough pressure to get field-usable velocities?

MightyMike0 gave me a spring kit with red and green springs, so I might be able to work with lower pressure.

Any advice?

Anything post 97-98 is going to be happy at somewhere between 225 and 350 psi.

sweetspotting your reg is pretty easy - and well worth your time.

thanks for the replies!

I'm not familiar with that reg - but is it externally adjustable - or do you have to pull the bottom to change pressure?

If it's externally adjustable - the sweetspotting will only take about 5 minutes. Just start low and work your way up - three or 4 shot groups - note them, adjust, repeat.

It adjusts in the same way as a palmers stabilizer. I can't find a manual or diagram for it, but internally, it looks a lot like a stabilizer as well.

Ok, so I tried to get the reg to work on the pump today.

I turned the reg as high as I could get it, just shy of 600psi, and it wouldn't fire. I'd just get a popping sound, and the paintball would just roll out the barrel. The bolt was not upside down, I checked.

Fortunately, I have a maddmann spring kit. The stock hammer spring seems about the same as a blue or green, and the stock valve spring seems really heavy, like a red.

I tried a red (heavy) hammer spring with a green (light) valve spring, but I got leaking down the barrel, even with the marker cocked. Because the valve spring wasn't heavy enough to close, I'm guessing? When I fired, the sound was a lot louder, even at about 200psi.

I am going to try a blue valve spring to get rid of the leak, I hope. But, am I on the right track here? I've never had to balance springs for low pressure (<600psi).

thanks, MCB!

You turned your pressure way too high, and overpressurized the gun, probably by about 200 psi. You really didn't have to take out the springs, as it was just a pressure issue. I suggest that you go back to the stock springs and have a little patience as you sweetspot it, because it's easy to crank up the pressure and go too far. Remember, you just want to bring the gun as high as it can go with its current valve spring, then adjust using the mainspring/IVG.

How is it that the outkast operates on such a low operating pressure? My 92 autococker seems to need 700psi+ to operate.

new spring and valve design.

when you're dealing with pressure on markers - always start at the bottom and work up - not top down.
