RACE frame info

Anyone here have the right software for a RACE frame, or know where I can get one?

Doc Nickel's selling his - it's set up for a Stroker/Typhoon - and I'm thinking about getting it to use on my Typhoon or Cocker. But he doesn't have the software...

Is it useless without it? Comes with the charger and cable, so at least there's that.

I am not sure which one offhand to download as the softwear for that particular Race frame, but the download site is right here for all of the Raceguns.

A Caveat for the racegun cable: They take a really funky port on the computer to connect. They are not just the normal USB compatible. I want to say it's a 7 pin plug looking thing, but I don't have mine handy to check offhand at the moment. Some older computers have a port for them, but on many newer ones you may be out of luck. I was looking for an adapter cord thing for a while but never found anything that was quite right- I wasn't looking obsessively or anything so they are probably out there. Just figured I would let you know that side of it too.

Listessa...are you talking about a serial port? Kinda looks like a VGA card port....if that's the case, serial port cards are available still from many different manufacturers.

Oh jesh, I must be old if an RS232 port is considered "funky". That's the oldest port that exists on a computer...it dates back to the days of teletype machines.

The racegun web site has all that stuff. I was able to find everything I needed, including pin out diagrams so I could make my own cables since I only had a charger cable.

You can use a serial-to-USB converter to use RIP on a newer computer.

It is funky and almost never used. I think a lot of newer machines dont have them. Sad to see the old hold out ports go.

Yep- and my laptop is one of those newer machines.
Even my older computer didn't have the right port, and after borrowing a friend's laptop that had the right port so I could get it initially set up I havn't tweaked with it.

It's not a comment about older ports or anything. I chose to go with more USB options on the computer I had before the laptop since I was heading to college and most stuff had started to come out with USB stuff. More utilitarian for me than anything else since I've never been too "into" computers.

I ended up just buying a Palm IIIc with a serial cable for $8 at the M.I.T. flea market. You can still find those old Palms on e-bay and such.
