| I've got an old Cocker, SN 679, locked up in storage. It's a Sniper 1 Convert. The original Cocker shared the serial number line of the Sniper 1 & 2, and I've been told the Cocker started around 7000 by several people I know who are VERY into Cockers and old WGP markers (even more so than me, and I'm a WGP freak!). I've also been told that Bud himself didn't even keep track of the SN's from when he started making Cockers, but that could be wrong. I've yet to be able to confirm that from either Bud or Jeff (can't seem to get a hold of them recently!). The MiniCocker and Sniper 3 shared the same SN-line, and started from #1, since they were new body designs. However, the older mini's aren't as rare as the old standard Cocker's. I have several mini's in my collection (one Mini with a SN just above 100, and several others under 1000, plus one with a SN in the mid-6000's, which I foolishly bought, thinking it was "rare"). This could all be wrong, but I'd bet money it's accurate, if not exact, considering the sources I've heard this from (several of which are active, well-respected members on this very site, along with several former WGP employees I've met). Take care. |

| I find it very hard to believe that Bud would abandon(or fail to begin) serial numbering for the autocockers after he had been serial numbering each and every Sniper made. Why would he do that? Imho, you are not going to find an autococker that is older than number 1 and if you do, then it is probably an autococking PGP. |

That was my thought, too. However, the way it's been explained to me (and again, it COULD be wrong!) was that he simply began taking Sniper 2 bodies and turning them into Cockers, thus continuing the Sniper 1 & 2 Serial # line, as opposed to starting all over with a new #1 SN for the Cocker. Now, he might have done that with the first X-number of Cocker's or so (which would make them very rare), but then could have started mass-producing them with the shared Sniper 1/2 serial's, which would have started them in the high 6000/low 7000 mark. Like I said earlier, I'm trying to get a hold of Bud to verify this (not as easy as it used to be since he left WGP, and Jeff is never in his office, nor does he seem to return phone calls)...since it would satisfy my own curiosity, plus answer Carter's original question and help him with his quest. | That makes sense enough to be true. I thought that someone above was suggesting that there were cockers around that were without serial numbers. Getting back to Carter's original question about the oldest Autococker; I would suggest that the answer should be: A PPS Stroker based on a PGP. |

| I Am The Admin | It goes something like this... Sniper 1's... 1-10, not serial numbered... or so it is said. Then they were numbered up until their demise... roughly to 1200 The 62 caliber sniper 1's may have had their own numbers.. or may not. No one has been able to confirm this. Aside from having a "62" put near the serial number, I'm not sure if they started at 1 or not. Sniper II's started at serial number 2000 and went up. Not sure why, it's just what they did. So 1200 - 1999 never existed. They used up the rest of the sniper 1 parts on the early sniper II's, so I've called them Sniper 1 1/2 That continued for roughly the first 500-600 guns. The Auto Cocking Sniper II, started around 6800 give or take. No one knows when, hence why I've been looking. Around 1992 In 1993 the mini-cocker came out, and those started over.... The sniper II, and Auto Cocking Sniper II (Autococker today) never changed numbers.. they bodies just continued being made and numbered.

| MCB Member | Since we're on the topic of older Sniper 2s/Autocockers, is this considered sacreligious or not then? I bought this a long time ago when I was first getting into Autocockers. Not knowing what it was, I sold it to my brother, who still owns it to this day. My brother is a player and not a collector, so this marker has gone through many changes over the years. The anodize was done back when the original owner worked for P.K. Selective, and is still holding strong. It shoots great and has no problems. Is it wrong though to do this to one that is so low in number? Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| To me, YES, that's SO WRONG!!!!! To someone else, no, there's nothing wrong with it. Your question is entirely subjective and based upon one's opinion. That used to be a Sniper 2 that was converted to a Cocker and then re-anno'd. Shame on both accounts. Regardless, if your brother is playing with it and loves it, then good for him and he should be happy! It's a nice looking marker. |
